It is not only ultraviolet rays that affect the eyes. It is well known that the natural lenses of the middle-aged and elderly ( over 40 years of age )  turn from transparent  to green and then yellow with the loss of transparency over time.

It has been found that something can be done to prevent this loss of transparency with age. This has been clarified by Professor Yasuo Sakamoto in the School of Medical Welfare at Tohoku Bunka Gakuen University.

According to the research of professor Sakamoto et al., it has been confirmed that if light with wavelength of 580 nm(yellow light) is selectively cut as in the figure on the left there is an increase in contrast sensitivity in environments with glare for the middle-aged and elderly ( as shown in the figure on the left). In general , it is said that yellow light is easily visible light ( high visibility ) . However , it was discovered from this research that yellow light conversely feels like strong light for the middle-aged and elderly and that there is a particular susceptibility to glare when this light enters the eyes. Cutting this yellow light results in a reduction of glare equal to or greater than that of dark sunglasses for the middle-aged and elderly.
